Smoothie bowls are basically bowls of fruity ice-cream, and who doesn’t want to eat ice-cream for breakfast? This bowl of green goodness couldn’t be easier to make and it gives you a hearty hit of vitamins in one simple meal. All you need is a bunch of green fruit and veg, a freezer and a good smoothie maker or blender.
I wanted this bowl to be a gorgeous green colour, for aesthetics as much as nutrition, so I used spinach, green apples, kiwi and banana, but you can use whatever fruit and veg you want. Adding a banana to your concoction helps to create a smooth, ice-cream-like texture so it’s worth throwing one of those in regardless.
I really don’t need to tell you how to make a smoothie. You can freeze the fruit and veg in advance and whip it out half an hour before you’re ready to blend to let it soften slightly. I put all of mine in a blender with a dash of yoghurt and whizzed it up until it reached a satisfyingly smooth texture. To top it I used chia seeds, blackberries and kiwi slices.
For a tropical bowl you could try it with banana, mango, pineapple and passionfruit then top it with coconut and banana chips.
Tuck in for a nutrient-rich breakfast or luscious lunch!
