The iconic Kate Spade Pearl Place Rose Bowl is as pretty as a picture, but it’s a shame about the £63 price-tag! When I spotted a simple bowl of the same shape in The Range, I thought it would be pretty easy to recreate the Kate Spade version just by using a sponge and some glass paint. My polka dots are not as neat but the overall look can totally be replicated so I had to share!
Here’s what the vase looked like before I started. It was £6.
All you need is a vase of your choice, gold glass paint, a fine paintbrush and a sponge on a stick! No idea what those are called but you can see it photographed above. You can use a good-quality acrylic paint but you’ll need to spray a clear varnish on top to secure the paint. You can even use a Sharpie pen in gold and bake it in the oven to secure it to the glass. If you use a stencil, this may give your polka dots a clearer edge. The vase will most likely not be handled very much, so any of the above will do!
I highly recommend ensuring the vase is totally free from dust/grime before you start, as it will ensure the paint goes on smoothly.
The first layer of paint was really patchy, so I let the polka dots dry completely before going over it again. Once the second layer was totally dry to the touch, I took a really small paint brush and just went over the dots with a steady hand. It’s kinda rustic looking but I love it!
What do you think? I’d love to read your comment! Have you attempted this DIY Kate Spade vase before or do you think you’ll give it a go?
